Sony Ericsson PC Suite 4.0 Backup and Restore

Sony Ericsson PC Suite 4.0 is enhanced more with the backup and restore options and even the text messaging features are also improved. when it comes to backup and restore section in sony ericsson pc suite 4.0, there are few different options like, deleting backup, open backup folder,edit backup properties, display backup properties and browse for previously saved backup files.

The default location for new Sony Ericsson PC Suite 4.0 is in MY Documents folder.
C:\Documents and Settings\Your Profile\My Documents\Sony Ericsson\Sony Ericsson PC Suite and the sms files are located at the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sony Ericsson\Sony Ericsson PC Suite.

To backup phone data, proceed as follows:

Click on the Backup phone button.
The Backup Wizard is displayed.
Note:

The first time the Backup & Restore window is launched, all the items to be backed up are checked by default. The next time, the Backup & Restore window is launched, it keeps track of which items were selected previously.

Check the item(s) you want to backup. Depending on the capabilities of your phone, the items available to backup are:
Contacts
Calendar
Tasks
Notes
Bookmarks

Note:

If your phone contains no data in the selected backup categories, no backup will be performed.



  • Click on the Next button.
  • The Set backup properties window is displayed.
  • Enter a backup name and, if you wish, a backup description.
  • If you wish to choose a backup location other than the default one, proceed as follows:
  • Check the Select another location box.
  • Click on the Browse button.
  • Select the desired location.
  • Click on the OK button.
  • Click on the Next button.
  • The backup process starts. A backup progress screen is displayed indicating the progression status (In Progress, Errors, Success).
  • To cancel the backup process, click the Cancel button.
  • When the backup process is successfully completed, click on the OK button.
  • The backup is displayed in the Phone backups bubble.
Note:

The date of the last backup is displayed in the title area.

Warning!

The Phone backups list on the right remembers the last 10 backups only. Any previous backups will be lost

The Phone backups bubble displays all backup files (.dbk) which are ordered by date.

Note:

The newest backup is at the top of the list.

Selecting a backup file in the bubble allows you to perform different actions on it. You can:

  • Delete a backup file
  • Open a backup folder
  • Edit backup properties
  • Display backup properties
  • Browse for a backup file
  • Delete a backup file

To delete a backup file, proceed as follows:

Select the backup file you want to delete.
Click on the Delete backup button.
A confirmation window is displayed.
Click Yes to confirm the deletion.
Open a backup folder

To open a backup folder, proceed as follows:

Select the backup file whose folder you wish to open.
Click on the Open backup folder button.
The Phone backups window containing the backup file(s) is displayed.
Edit backup properties

To edit backup properties, proceed as follows:

Select the backup file whose backup properties you wish to edit.
Click on the Edit backup properties button.
The Backup properties window is displayed.
Edit the backup name and/or description.
Click on the Save button.
Display backup properties

To display backup properties, proceed as follows:

Select the backup file whose backup properties you wish to display.
Click on the Display backup properties button.
The Backup properties window is displayed.
Note:

This function only allows you to view the backup properties, no modification is possible.

Browse for a backup file

To browse for a backup file and add it to the list, proceed as follows:

Click on the Browse link.
The Open window is displayed.
Browse and select a backup file (.dbk).
Click on the Open button.
The file is displayed in the Phone backups bubble.

To restore one or more backup file(s), proceed as follows:

From the Phone backups bubble, select a backup.
Click on the Restore phone button.
The Restore Wizard is displayed.
Check the category/categories you want to restore.
Click on the Finish button to launch the restore process.
The restore process starts. A restore progress screen is displayed indicating the general progress of the restore (In Progress, Errors, Success).
When the restore process is successfully completed, click on the OK button.
